Kozynaks, despite their simplicity, are very tasty and useful. In ancient times, people first ate them not for pleasure, but as a medicine. Homeland of goats is Georgia. The Persian King Darius (550-486 BC) was the first to invent such a sweet as kozinak. The historical name of this dessert was "gozinaki".
According to legend, Tsar Darius was very fond of honey and nuts, but doctors at that time said that eating them together was forbidden. After the cook brought the prepared goat meat to the Tsar. the ruler gathered all his subjects and ate the dessert in front of everyone. And after everyone saw that everything was fine with their ruler, they introduced this sweet into the diet and began to taste it on holidays and treat foreign guests.
According to the ancient religious ideas of the Georgian people, honey and walnuts were considered sacred food and were presented as a gift to "Batonebi". In Svaneti, on the day of Lypanali, a mixture of honey and milk was sprinkled on the road, along which the souls of the dead supposedly returned.
