Still life with pastries and sweets
Still life is a genre of fine art depicting inanimate nature, more specifically flowers, fruits, dishes with food and drink.
The famous German artist Georg Flegel painted still lifes with dishes, and gingerbread and sweet pastries were often seen in his works. Flegel was born in 1566 in Olomouc. The artist was the founder of the school of still life, and during his lifetime he painted 110 paintings depicting inanimate objects, which were previously considered only as a background for paintings.

The artist began to paint his first paintings in 1600, and this painting is no exception, it depicts fresh bread, sweet gingerbread, a crystal drinking glass and sugary, crystal cookies. Small insects, in particular a butterfly. bee and ladybug symbolize a separate kind of art and admiration for all living things. Flegel was a charming and insanely talented person, he valued life and knew how to combine inanimate objects, painting them with life. Sweets in his painting symbolize the enjoyment of life, and a full glass - a full life and success in it.
Georg Flegel died on March 23, 1639.
