Levashniki

The TriStar company has repeatedly touched upon the topic of ancient sweets with the methods of their preparation and comparison with modern technologies. However, we still will not be able to learn all the intricacies of making sweets before. However, we will be able to find out many secrets and will put all our efforts so that TriStar does not concede to old recipes.

Levashi are small pies stuffed with berries, honey and molasses, which used to be prepared for the holidays during the fast. Levashi is a kind of ancestor of our modern buns. Quite a variety of fillings could be added to levashi-raspberries. Strawberry. currant, blueberry. blackberry.
One day, Nikolai Kostomarov himself tried this sweet, famous at that time. and describing our ancient cuisine he mentioned them like this:

“There used to be a delicacy called levashi: it was made from raspberries, blueberries, currants, strawberries. The berries were first boiled down, then rubbed through a sieve and then boiled again, already with molasses, thickly stirring during cooking, then this thick mixture was laid out on a board, previously smeared with molasses, and placed in the sun or against the fire; when it dried up, they rolled it into tubes".

The left-hander himself used to be more often called a pie. However, what does the word “Levash” remind you of? Many compare it with the word "lavash", and this is true. Lavash is a thin pancake made from dough that was cooked in a hot metal frying pan or even on a hot stone, the same technology with left-handed bread. Even despite the fact that in those days the countries that used pita bread were very far away, all this technology and references to the name could leak out.

From this we can conclude that the peoples were close to each other and had very similar tastes.
